I’d just like to start off my blogging career with two words that you’ll need to know by heart if you come to Vandy, neither of which is tested on the SAT. What are they? GO DORES! My name is Chris, or Crime Dawg to my friends, I’m a freshman in the College of Arts and Sciences here at Vandy and I’m from the great state of Florida (it’s ok to be jealous).
SO I’m supposed to give you future Dores a “taste of life at Vanderbilt from the student perspective,” which means I’ll probly write weekly and just tell you guys about something awesome that’s happened that week. Sound good? Here goes.
The past month or so has been nothing but pure insanity here at Vandy. I got here in late August, pulled up to my dorm (Branscomb, which is the best, but you guys will live in The Commons which is even better) and I was assaulted by three guys in red shirts who took all the stuff out of my car and started walking away with it. That was my first experience with Vandy Move Crew (a bunch of upperclassmen who come to school early just to help freshmen move in, good deal right?) I pretty much knew from then on I’d feel right at home; I mean a place where it’s normal to take all the stuff out of other people’s cars…what more could I ask for?
Over the next week I tried to get settled into college life; one problem: I was too busy meeting awesome people from all over the place and enjoying the new found freedom of college life in one way or another. During the first week there was a bunch of planned programming for freshmen called DoreSteps (clever…I guess?) which basically throws you together with 14 other kids in hopes that you’ll become friends with at least a few of them. Again, you guys will have a whole week of new redesigned orientation centered around the College Halls project; next year will be awesome for the freshman!
Football here is AWESOME, which is what you get when you're a Top 20 university in the SEC! The home-opener against Richmond (which we won by a pretty solid margin, by the way) was crazy to say the least. The cool thing about football at Vandy is that there are always a bunch of different things going on that you can choose to do. Last week I wore a shirt and tie and took a date to the tailgates (an SEC tradition) and it was a blast, but the week before I painted up with a bunch of really crazy guys and it was just as much fun. I think that's what I like most about Vandy: the infinite ways there are to have an amazing time.
GO DORES! (And have a good senior year)
-Chris

Ha, how cool. I'm from Florida, I'm a high school senior. I think I'm going to continue to read your blog, it'll be helpful.
VU sounds like fun. It makes me nervous though, in a good way.
